I’ve been playing Tears of the Kingdom for a week now and while it feels premature to call it the best game ever, before I’ve even figured out how to make a gundam, the fact that it’s already a contender for the best game in my mind probably says something. I highly recommend playing it if you haven’t, though if you’re not normally a video game person it might be easier to start with Breath of the Wild, which is also wonderful.
The two Zelda games are so good, in my opinion, because unlike a lot of contemporary video games, they aren’t work. The world is very big, and there are lots of places to explore and lots of side quests, but the gameplay isn’t difficult, and you rarely have to concentrate. Mostly you’re just running around a lovely cartoony landscape collecting items and discovering secret areas. It’s relaxing—and pairs extremely well with audiobooks. After a long day of writing and other computer work, I often want to read a novel, but I find it hard to stay focused on a printed page. However with a Zelda game going and an audiobook in my ears…pure bliss, the apex of human existence, pity for all previous generations, etc.
Anyway, thanks to Zelda I’ve been reading a lot, and here are the best books I’ve read lately, which you might enjoy too.
